Vini's journey as a chef started in his family's kitchen, where love and affection were transformed into the smell of fresh cake and freshly brewed coffee — a place where food, laughter and love were shared; where memories were created and preserved.

Among colourful pans and not-so-sharp knives, he discovered himself. Inspired by an environment where food was seen not only as nourishment but as an expression of love, Vini learned to wield utensils as extensions of his creativity and ingredients as the colourful palette for his culinary artistry under the watchful eyes of his grandparents.

As he grew older, his curiosity extended beyond the confines of his family's kitchen, and armed with a backpack and an insatiable appetite for adventure, he embarked on a global odyssey.
His travels took him from the sun-soaked streets of Italy to the bustling markets of Morocco, from the tranquil villages of Southeast Asia to the lively bistros of Argentina, where he understood that cooking goes beyond a perfectly cut onion and far beyond a classy mastered poached egg.
In each corner of the world, Vini discovered that food was a universal connector, transcending barriers and forging bonds among people from diverse backgrounds, languages, and cultures.

With these profound experiences etched into his culinary soul, Vini found a new place to call home - now Australia - with a life full of memorable stories, intricate flavours and beautiful connections.

Kuya was intentionally created to join all of that and share with the world with an extra pinch of sustainability. A business that not only takes from what it offers but also serves as a way of giving back through its conscious footprint choices.

For us, food reflects our choices, our state of mind, and it's an incredible opportunity to foster connections.

Meaning
The word 'kuya' - or cuia - originated from the indigenous Tupi language from Brazil, referring to the fruit of the kuieté tree.
It's a tradition for the tribes to turn this fruit - also known as a gourd or calabash - into a container. Carefully chosen for its shape, it's used for storing things as well as for eating and drinking.
